Hi. . .

I'm so glad you stopped by.

Let me properly introduce myself.
I'm Sue Dolan, self-professed "Accidental Artist", (I'll get to that part in a little bit.)

But first. . .

Here's what I refer to as my art studio aka my kitchen counter.
Honestly, why rent space when I have a perfectly comfortable space right at home?

The "Official" Artist Bio about me goes like this. . .

Whimzee's online art gallery and art resource features the original art work of accidental artist Sue Dolan whose creations are inspired by a vivid and fanciful imagination then brought to life in entertaining and comical interpretations of Sue's unique (and rather quirky) view of the world.

A robust imagination fuels accidental artist Sue Dolan's whimsical art work along with what some (rather stuffy, pole-up-their-you-know-what folk) consider an unusually peculiar sense of humor and fanciful view of the world.

You see, Sue has always firmly believed that curiosity doesn't really kill the cat. Rather its inquisitive nature serves as a springboard to explore all sorts of intriguing mysteries.  Like, do those gorgeously colored crayons really taste as scrumptious as they look? (Unfortunately, that would be a great big, hearty NO!)  Or can a drop of splattered paint be transformed into a cute, cuddly, magical, furry critter with great big endearing eyes that you just can't wait to scoop up and snuggle?  (Why surprisingly, YES, indeed it can!)

Living on the enchantingly beautiful and lively harbor of Gloucester, MA; home to one of the oldest artist colonies in the US with her beloved Knight-in-Shining Armor and overly willful, rambunctious terrier side-kick (who practically Velcro’s himself to her side), serves as a very special yet unique blend of magical sustenance that provides endless nourishment for Sue's active imagination.

We hope you truly enjoy exploring Sue Dolan's uniquely inspired world of whimzee. . .

Unofficially though. . .

I suppose my curiosity, imagination and creative spirit began quite early on in life.

You see it all started, unbeknownst to me, at the very tender and early age when the first semblances
of coherent thought began to shape my growth and development.

Much to the consternation of my family I had unconsciously, yet wholeheartedly, embraced a version of JFK’s
quote and adopted it as my life’s motto,

Ask not why, but why not.”

 Some simple truths about me:

  • I’m a “doer”.
  • Believe is my favorite word.
  • My middle name should have been Calamity Jane rather than the rather pretentious MacBeth.
  • Super chunky peanut butter slathered, bite by scrumptious bite, on a barely ripe banana is the best snack on the planet.
  • I adore power tools nearly as much as taking on a hearty building project.
  • "You can't" doesn't really work for me, 'cause I can.
  • I'm an identical twin.  (Yes, the "twin thing" is true.)  The path and events in my sister’s and my life have inexplicable similarities which, quite frankly, boggle the mind.
  • Honor is the most important trait of them all.
  • I crack myself up all the time.
  • Gardening is magical.
  • Cooking feeds my happy place.
  • I liken myself to MacGyver when fixing stuff.  (Though my husband's description would fall more into the Lucille Ball category.)
  • Problem solving is my forte.
  • I wonder.  A lot.
  • Crazy glue is my arch enemy.
  • My childhood hero was Pippi Longstockings.  (She still kind of is. . .)
  • I’ve always wanted a monkey to sit on my shoulder, just like Pippi.
  • I firmly believe that anything is possible.
  • Family rocks.  And always comes first.

So How does one become an Accidental Artist?

By mistake.
By not putting 2 and 2 together.
By staring in stunned disbelief when your sister-in-law ever so innocently wonders aloud why I haven’t explored opening an Etsy shop.

Huh?
Well, for the simple fact that it never occurred to me!
For goodness sakes, I'm not an artist.  It's not my profession.  I'm a dabbler.  I create for fun.  It's always been a favorite pastime for me, certainly not a profession. To me, artists are a very special and gifted type of professional. Right?

But. . .
When a few of my more active brain cells started to rub together some very interesting (and exciting) thoughts started to occur to me.

Of course.  Why not?

Duh!
(Insert dope slap here.)

It’s the most perfect, dream come true, tailored-made-just-for-me, retirement adventure.
One where I am deliriously happy, surrounded by endless paints, brushes and paper.
Honestly, it just doesn’t get any better than that.

Do you have your own little creatures to hang out with you?

Many of Whimzee's curious characters enjoy hanging out with you snuggled up on a nice, simple cozy mat.  But those that tend to be a bit more on the vain side like getting decked out in a beautiful frame to hang around in a prominent place so they can bask in attention from you, your friends and family.
On the other hand, the critters and creations that are a bit more shy are happy find a nice spot to nestle up to on a bulletin board or refrigerator door.   (All and all, Whimzee's creations aren't that fussy and take great pleasure in pleasing their owner.)
